Those who oppose God's people.
“"Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity”
Exploring the story found in Esther 6:13, speaks to the inevitable downfall of those who oppose
God's people. Mordecai, a Jew, had refused to bow to Haman, who sought to destroy the
Jewish people. Haman's wife, Zeresh, warned him that he would not prevail against Mordecai,
but would instead fall before him. Throughout history all who opposed God's chosen people
always fall.
The Bible warns of the consequences that befall those who oppose God's people:
Those who oppose God's people may face God's wrath and judgment (Genesis 12:3, Galatians
1:10).
Destruction and Defeat: The Bible warns that those who oppose God's people will be defeated
and destroyed (Psalm 9:17, Proverbs 21:12).
Shame and Humiliation: Those who oppose God's people may be put to shame and humiliated
(Psalm 35:26, Isaiah 41:11).
Loss of Blessings: Opposing God's people may result in the loss of blessings and prosperity
(Genesis 12:3, Deuteronomy 28:15).
Spiritual Blindness: Those who oppose God's people may be spiritually blinded and unable to
see the truth (2 Corinthians 4:4, John 12:40).
Eternal Condemnation: Ultimately, those who persistently oppose God's people may face
eternal condemnation and separation from God (Matthew 25:41, Revelation 21:8).
Biblical examples of those who opposed God's people and faced consequences includes the
following:
- Pharaoh and the Egyptians (Exodus 14:4-31)
- Haman (Esther 6-7)
- Antiochus Epiphanes (Daniel 11:21-35)
- The enemies of the early Christian church (Acts 8:1-3, 12:1-19)
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the example of Mordecai's faith and courage in the face of opposition. Help us
to trust in Your sovereignty and remember that you will protect us as well, you are faithful and
just. Lord, May we humble ourselves before You, recognizing our weakness and dependence on
Your strength. Jesus, cover us from the pitfalls of pride and self-reliance, and give us th
