The Storm & The Old Tree by Marcel and Jacqueline Bruff

The Storm and The Old Tree.

(November 11th)

A wise old tree stood tall on the edge of a forest, its roots deeply embedded in the earth. One day, a fierce storm swept through, bringing strong winds and heavy rains. The tree swayed violently, its branches creaking under the force of the gale. Yet, it stood firm, its roots holding fast against the tempest.

As the storm raged on, a young sapling nearby trembled with fear, its delicate branches battered by the wind. "How can you withstand such fury?" the sapling asked the old tree.

The old tree replied, "I don't resist the storm. I flex with it, bending but never breaking. My roots go deep, and my spirit is strong. I have weathered many storms, and I will weather this one too."

This parable offers valuable lessons for navigating life's challenges. Just as the tree's deep roots and flexible branches enable it to withstand storms, our faith and trust in God can help us weather life's tempests.

"We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope." (Romans 5:3-4)

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11)

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.

(Psalm 46:1-2)

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." (Isaiah 41:10)

Reflection.

1. What storms are you currently facing in your life?

2. How are you flexing and adapting to the challenges?

3. What are your deep roots that keep you grounded in faith?

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for the wisdom, knowledge and understanding of the old tree's resilience. Help us to deepen our roots in You and to flex with the storms of life, trusting in Your sovereignty and promises. May we emerge stronger and more hopeful, bearing fruit for Your glory.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.
