The Sacred, the Secular in Christendom by Marcel & Jacqueline Bruff

The Sacred, the Secular in Christendom.

As the spiritual landscape of Christendom continues to evolve, a clear separation is emerging between the sacred and the secular. This divide is not merely a matter of external affiliations or denominational labels, but rather a distinction that originates from within the hearts of individuals.

The Secular Heart

The secular heart is characterized by a focus on worldly pursuits, power, and prestige. It is a heart that has compromised its values and principles, often under the guise of convenience, expediency, or cultural relevance. As the Apostle Paul warns, "Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind" (Romans 12:2).

The Sacred Heart

In contrast, the sacred heart is marked by a deep commitment to holiness, righteousness, and obedience to God's Word. It is a heart that has been transformed by the power of the Gospel, and is now driven by a desire to please God and advance His kingdom. As Jesus teaches, "If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him" (John 14:23).

The Separation

The separation between the sacred and the secular heart is not a new phenomenon. Throughout history, God has always called His people to be separate, to be holy, and to be distinct from the world around them. As the Lord commands, "Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you" (2 Corinthians 6:17).

Reflections

As we navigate this critical moment in Christendom, we must examine our own hearts and motivations. Are we driven by a desire for worldly success, or are we committed to pleasing God? Are we compromising our values and principles, or are we standing firm on the Word of God?

Questions for Reflection:

1. What are the distinguishing characteristics of a sacred heart versus a secular heart?

2. How can we ensure that our hearts remain focused on God and His kingdom?

3. What are the consequences of compromising our values and principles, and how can we avoid this trap?

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, acknowledging the divide between the sacred and the secular. We pray that You would search our hearts and reveal any areas where we may be compromising our values and principles. Help us to remain committed to Your Word and to Your kingdom, and give us the courage to stand firm in the face of opposition. May we be Your sacred remnant, shining as lights in a dark world.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen. ❤️🙏🏾
