The Joy This Season Brings
For unto us a Child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace,” Isaiah 9:6.
There is much dispute in society today about Christmas, even among Christians. They would say, that is not the day Christ was born or that day was originally a pagan holiday. Both statements are absolutely correct. The Bible does not give a specific date to the birth of Jesus Christ. But many theologians believe Christ birth-date to be between April and October. During this time of the year pagans and cults would celebrate various festivals.
Christmas means Christ’s mass in Old English and in Latin it is Natalis “Day of Birth”. It is said that scholars have traced the celebration of Jesus Christ back to the fourth century. Even the government of the various countries celebrates, acknowledges and recognizes Christ birthday on the 25th of December. With all that being said, Christ was born.
“For unto to you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord,” Luke 2:11. Irrespective of all the noise around us and the commercialization of this season, the fact is Christians are celebrating Christ’s birthday. One theologian spoke of even the lights, how it depicts the birth of Jesus, who is the Light of the world, John 8:12. I pray that this season we will accept the real meaning for this holiday season.
God Bless.
