The benefits of forgiveness

Forgiveness, is an intentional decision to let go of resentment and anger.

“Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, with all malice, and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:31-32)

The Bible teaches that unselfish love is the basis for true forgiveness

Instinctively one may feel a rush of emotions springing up from deep down as a result of past hurt or betrayals and at times forgiveness feels impossible, however the Bible which is a manual for life, teaches the many benefits of forgiveness.

Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends.(Proverbs 17:9)

The verse above proves the physical, emotionally and spiritually healing is far greater than allowing bitterness to fester and destroy lives. (Mark 11:26)

Consider this, forgiveness removes pain and grudge from your heart. You become happier and this is what the Lord desires for you. When your heart is pure, the Lord can find a place in it and fill it with love, below are a list of the benefits of forgiveness:

*Improved mental health.

*Less anxiety and stress.

*Lower blood pressure.

*Fewer symptoms of depression.

*A stronger immune system.

*Improved heart health.

*Improved self-esteem.

So forgiving someone when they have caused harm or pain can be difficult and hard to do, but in the long run you will benefit.

Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behaviour. Instead, be kind to each other, tender hearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. (Ephesians 4:31-32)

In the Gospels we see Jesus not only teaching about forgiveness but setting the ultimate example. Jesus forgave those who crucified him, 'Father! Forgive them, They don't know what they are doing. ' (Luke 23:34).

The entire world have received the gift of God through Jesus's love and forgiveness.
