Our Temporal Impermanent World.
(Article for 14th October)
As young people, we often feel invincible, as if death and mortality are distant concerns. But the reality is, our time on this earth is fleeting. The Bible reminds us that our lifespan is "three score and ten" (Psalm 90:10), and before we know it, our lives can be over.
However, as Christians, we have hope beyond this temporal world. Our souls are eternal, and we have a promise of eternal life with God. But this promise is not just a comforting thought; it's a reality that is backed up by numerous testimonies of Near-Death Experiences (NDEs).
Many people who have had NDEs have shared their experiences of crossing over into the afterlife, only to be sent back to their bodies. These testimonies confirm that heaven and hell are real, and that the afterlife is not just a fairy tale.
But why is it important to remember that our souls are eternal? Because it puts our lives on this earth into perspective. We are not just temporary inhabitants of this planet; we are eternal beings with a destiny that goes beyond this life.
When we look around us, we see a world that is broken and marred by sin. Even in the natural world, we see evidence of sin's impact. The animal kingdom is marked by killing and eating, a constant struggle for survival. The Bible tells us that this is not the way it was meant to be. In Genesis 1:29-30, we see that God originally created the world to be vegetarian, and it was only after the Fall that the natural world became corrupted.
But despite the brokenness of our world, we have hope. We know that God is in the process of redeeming His creation, and that one day He will restore all things to their original beauty.
So, what does this mean for us? It means that we should live our lives with an eternal perspective. We should not get too caught up in the temporary things of this world, but instead focus on what will last forever.
As the apostle Paul wrote, "For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands." (2 Corinthians 5:1)
Let us live our lives with this eternal perspective, knowing that our souls are eternal and that we have a destiny that goes beyond this life.
