Name

Throughout the Holy Bible we see the importance of names and its depictions. Your name is considered as a fundamental and a crucial part of you. Your name is used to identify you, it is also associated to your personal history, family and culture. We are recognized by our names and we also communicate through our names. At birth, if you don’t have a name, one will surely be given to (John Doe).

Biblical names reflect the character of an individual and his or her purpose. In the book of Genesis, it speaks of the first man and woman, Adam and Eve. Adam’s name means ground or earth, depicting where we came from. Eve on the other-hand, means life or living because she was the mother of every living thing.

Throughout the Bible we see where God changes one’s name to show His sovereignty, relationship and purpose for that individual. In Genesis 17:5, the scripture says, “neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.” God also changed the name of Sarai to Sarah in verse 15. After Jacob wrestled with an angel – a messenger of God, he was renamed Israel, 32:24.

As the Christmas season is on us, I want us to reflect on this name, JESUS. There is power in this name, JESUS. As we celebrate this powerful and amazing name, I pray we celebrate all that this name signifies. JESUS, the Lord is our Salvation! “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shall call His name JESUS, for He shall save His people from their sins,” Matthew 1:21. Do you know this name?

God Bless.
