How do you define success?

How do you define success? This question is cause for deep introspection. The Bible states in Matthew 5:6, “blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

The image created by the world concerning success is associated with having wealth and with wealth comes status and power. It also surrounds the thought of having material possessions, a good family with children and great friends. But, Matthew 16:26 gives a different perspective, “for what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”

There is a survey which revealed that 98% of children from Christian homes thoughts of success are aligned with the world’s view. Societies concepts of success focus on the temporal while ignoring the eternal which is spiritual. It’s centered around the gratification and promotion of one’s self, as opposed to the glorification of God. In other-words, start with self and then incorporate God. A Christian’s success has no correlation with the perspective the world.

The true definition of success is God centered as it is His desire for our lives. 3 John 1:2, “beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest and be in health, even as they soul prospereth. Success then, is defined as having true intimacy with God.

God Bless.
