Forgiveness by Minister Owen Mitchell

Forgiveness

Forgiveness has been the theme of the week for me. It all started Sunday morning while listening to message by one of my favorite Pastors. The theme of his message was Forgiveness. In the middle of the message, I received a call and the person was apologizing for how they treated me over the years. Forgiveness!

The Bible denotes in Matthew 6:12, “and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors,” which emphasizes the seriousness of forgiveness. Many of us, in reading this verse glance over it. Saints, please allow this to sink in, God’s forgiveness is predicated on us forgiving. Verses 11 & 13, “give us this day our daily bread, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil ….” Our forgiving others, releases God’s blessings such as our daily bread, temptations and deliverances.

The word forgive is to send away or dismiss, this is associated with force. We have to purpose in our heart to forgive, not just to passively overlook an offense. We need to actively make concerted efforts to let go of resentment and bitterness. Debts are sin and debtors are people who commit sins against us.

Is there someone who have done you wrong and you have not forgiven them for it? Talk to Jesus and have Him direct you as how to handle it. This is one of the hardest things to do, forgive but what is at stake is vitally important. Let go and let God, there is a peace that’s attached to it.

God Bless.
