*What Will It Take to Inherit Eternal Life? (Part 1)
We Must Recognise Our Need for Jesus Christ:
Inheriting eternal life begins with understanding that we are sinners and that we need a Saviour. No matter how good we think we are, how much money we have, or how many good deeds we perform, we cannot save ourselves.
God loves us so much that He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for our sins.
Eternal life is God's gift to us through Jesus Christ. We must recognise our need for Him, repent of our sins, and accept Him as our Lord and Saviour.
Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
We Must Repent of Our Sins
Repentance is an important part of our journey towards eternal life. To repent means to turn away from sin and turn towards God with a sincere heart.
It is not enough to say that we are sorry for our sins while continuing to live in deliberate disobedience to God's Word.
True repentance brings a change in our attitude, our behaviour, and our relationship with God.
Although we may stumble along the way, we must be willing to confess our sins, seek God's forgiveness, and allow Him to transform our lives.
Acts 3:19: “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out.”
1 John 1:9: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
We Must Believe in Jesus Christ
To inherit eternal life, we must believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and trust in what He accomplished through His death and resurrection.
Believing in Jesus means more than knowing that He existed or attending church every Sunday. It means placing our faith in Him, trusting His promises, and accepting Him
Jesus teaches us that loving God with all our heart, soul, strength, and mind is central to our Christian walk. He also commands us to love our neighbours as ourselves.
This love must be demonstrated through our actions, not merely through words. We must show kindness, forgive those who hurt us, help those in need, and treat others with compassion and respect.
We cannot claim to love God while deliberately hating our brothers and sisters. Our love for others is evidence of the work God is doing in our hearts.
Matthew 22:37–39: Jesus said, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.”
"This is the first and greatest commanment".
"And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself".
