Unity – Its Spiritual Benefits

In Psalm 133:1, the Bible says, “behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

Please allow me to address the exclamation sign at the end of this verse. I became so curious as to why this punctuation mark is used. The original Hebrew scholars used this exclamation sign to show importance, strong emotion and a sense of wonder. This also captures David’s excitement and a call for attention. The strength of God’s people becomes obvious when they are living together in harmony..

Unity is a state of oneness and harmony, “and whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it, or one member be honoured, all members rejoice with it,” 1 Corinthians 12:26. Unity builds relationship. In John 17, Jesus prayed that the children of God would be unified, mirroring the unity Jesus Himself had with the Father. Unity is essential for spiritual survival and shows the glory of God. “And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand,” Mark 3:25.

For any relationship to work, there has to be unity. A unified relationship with God:

. Builds trust

. Builds emotional security

. Aligns our future to the One who holds the future

. Emphasizes one’s identity (who you belong to)

. Deepens our intimacy with God

. Unlocks the door to God’s grace

Where there is unity, blessings are inevitable.

God Bless.
