Tarry by Minister OwenMitchell

Tarry

“And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high,” Luke 24:49. Tarry!

While meditating on this powerful word, the thought of my grandmother and who she was came to mind strongly. This is what her spiritual life personified. Everything spiritual for grandma was strategic, principled, positional and timely. God is in control of everything, she taught us. Her life was God-centered and tarrying was of utmost importance. The Church today has emulated much of the world and we have developed a microwave mentality.

The principle and meaning of tarrying, is to wait. “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart, wait, I say, on the Lord,” Psalm 27:14. Abraham waited 25 years for the promise of Isaac. Joseph waited 13 years before his dream came to fruition. Jacob waited 14 years for the love of his life, Rachel. Noah waited 120 years before the flood that wiped out everything on earth. David waited approximately 15 years after being anointed by Samuel before becoming King.

Tarrying means, to stay in a place or state with eager expectation and trusting God’s divine timing. Many times, we decide to wait on the Lord but still attach a time to it. God is always on time; He is never late. As we wait on God’s divine promise to be manifested, we have to exercise faith that it will happen. Acts 1:4 God told the disciples, …. “but wait ….”. In Acts 2:1, “and when the day of Pentecost was fully come ….” There is a day to receive but only if we tarry.

God Bless.
