Let There be Light

As our beloved country of Jamaica continues to deal with the aftermath of hurricane Melissa, I received a text from a friend, “Let there be Light”. Since October 28, 2025 when winds of 185 miles per hour hit the western parishes of Jamaica, she has been without light. She was without light for over two months.

With much jubilance for her and the people in her district, I began to think about all the people who are living in darkness today. The Bible in John 3:19 states, “…. that Light is come into the world, and men love darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” From creation God established the significance of light when He said, “let there be light, and there was light,” Genesis 1:3. “And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness,” verse 4.

Darkness is a reflection of the inception of sin. For this cause, we need to separate ourselves from any resemblance of it. Darkness diminishes hope, it increases fear; we become edgy and uncomfortable because of darkness. Let there be light! Light on the other-hand exposes darkness. Light is instantaneous, it affects us and our surroundings instantly. Whenever Light is present it changes the atmosphere and propels a forward motion. Light illuminates.

As we continue through this year, I pray Light will be the dominant force in our lives. After living without light for so long, when my friend got it back, her joy was refreshed. Accepting Jesus, we accept Light in our lives, transforming and separating us. Then, just like John, we become “…. witness of Light,” John 1:7.

God Bless.
