Fullness of Joy by Minister Owen Mitchell

Fullness of Joy

“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy ….”, Psalm 16:11.

A Psalm of David where he expresses his absolute dependency and trust in God. Bible scholars believe this was a time when David faced serious attacks from King Saul. Most likely in the wilderness, trying to flee from the intense pressure of being hunted by Saul. This Psalm is referred to as a golden or a hidden secret Psalm, suggesting, David’s precious and intimate time of prayer.

“In thy presence is fullness of joy”. This statement challenges us Christians to pursue spiritual intimacy with our Father. It encourages us to be in constant prayer, worship and the reading of the word, to experience this amazing joy. When we habitually seek the face of God, He will show us the path that leads us to this joy. This joy is not only found in Him but is Him.

In the final statement of this verse David says, “…. at thy right hand there are pleasure for ever more.” This conclusion points to Jesus Christ and His resurrection and emphasizes where He sits; on the right of God. This also points to our future home in the Heavenly Kingdom.

My dear friends, God is saying to us today, amidst all the uncertainties of life, the wars and turmoil, there is joy in Him. This joy encapsulates His reassurance, protection, comfort, and the future that is only found in Him. Greater love has no man that this.

God Bless.
