Finding Comfort in God

Beloved

God comforts those who mourn

There are times in life when we may feel brokenhearted or overwhelmed. In those moments, God invites us to come to Him because He is our comfort.

Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

Notice that Scripture does not say God is sometimes present. It says He is a very present help. When you are hurting, confused, disappointed, or afraid, God has not moved away from you. He is near.

1. Bring Your Burdens to God

Jesus said:

Matthew 11:28: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

God does not ask you to carry everything by yourself. You can bring Him your worries, your disappointments, your fears, and even the things you cannot put into words.

Prayer is not merely asking God to change our circumstances. Sometimes prayer is where God changes our hearts while we are waiting for our circumstances to change.

2. God Comforts the Brokenhearted

Psalm 34:18: “The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”

When your heart is broken, God is not distant from your pain. He draws near.

You may not understand why something has happened, but you can still know Who is with you in it.

His presence becomes our place of safety.

3. Trust Him Even When You Cannot See

There will be seasons when God does not immediately explain what He is doing.

That is where faith becomes important.

Proverbs 3:5–6: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”

You may not see the way forward, but God does.

You may not know what tomorrow holds, but God already holds tomorrow.

4. His Peace Is Greater Than Our Circumstances

Jesus said:

John 14:27: “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you.”

The peace of God is not dependent upon everything around us being peaceful.

You can have trouble around you and still have peace within you.

You can cry and still have peace.

You can be waiting and still have peace.

You can be uncertain and still have peace.

Because our peace is not found in knowing what will happen. Our peace is found in knowing God.

Closing

Beloved, when life becomes heavy, run to God, not away from Him.

When you are weary, rest in Him.

When you are afraid, trust Him.

When you are hurting, pour your heart out to Him.

When you cannot see the way, hold on to His Word.

God is still your refuge.

God is still your strength.

God is still your comfort.

And God is still with you.

Psalm 55:22: “Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee.”

You don't have to carry what God has invited you to give to Him.
