Desire Without Decision is Dead.
A father asks his two sons to work in the vineyard. The first son initially refuses but later changes his mind and goes. The second son agrees to go but doesn't follow through. Parable of the two sons.
(Matthew 21:28-33)
Jesus uses this parable to emphasize the importance of putting our words into action. It's not enough to simply agree or desire to do something; we must take intentional steps towards making it happen.
As Christians, we often find ourselves desiring to live a more fulfilling life, to deepen our relationship with God, and to make a meaningful impact on the world around us. However, desire alone is not enough. Without decision and action, our desires can remain stagnant, unfulfilled, and ultimately, dead.
Biblical Perspective
In James 2:17, we read, "In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." This verse highlights the importance of backing our desires and faith with intentional decisions and actions.
Reflection Questions
1. What desires have you been harboring in your heart, but have yet to take action on?
2. What decisions do you need to make to start moving forward?
3. How can you balance your desires with wisdom and discernment?
Conclusion
Desire without decision is indeed dead. As Christians, we must recognize the importance of intentional decision-making and action in pursuing our desires. By backing our desires with faith, wisdom, and action, we can start moving forward and experiencing the fulfillment that God has in store for us.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Help us to recognize the desires that you have placed in our hearts. Give us the wisdom and courage to make intentional decisions and take action towards fulfilling those desires. May our faith be accompanied by action, and may we experience the fulfillment that comes from living a life that honors you.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen. 🙏🏾
