Armor of God

Armor of God.

(December 9th 2025

Ephesians 6:11 says, "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." (KJV). Let's break it down:

What are the "wiles of the devil"?

The "wiles" (or schemes, strategies, tricks) of the devil refer to the devil's clever, deceitful tactics to tempt, deceive, distract, or undermine believers. These can include:

- Temptation to sin

- Deception (twisting truth, spreading lies about God, self, or others)

- Accusation (making you feel guilty, unworthy, or condemned)

- Distraction (pulling focus from God, spiritual growth, or important priorities)

- Division (causing strife, discord, isolation in relationships)

- Discouragement (making you feel defeated, hopeless, or inadequate)

How to put on the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:12-17):

The armor pieces are metaphorical spiritual practices/actions:

1. The Belt of truth! Embrace and live by God's truth (Scripture, integrity).

2. The Breastplate of righteousness! Live righteously (pursue godly living, confess sins, rely on Christ's righteousness).

3. The Shoes of peace! Stand firm in the gospel of peace, be prepared, spread peace.

4. The Shield of faith! Trust God actively (use faith to deflect doubts, fears, accusations).

5. The Helmet of salvation!

Focus on your salvation assurance (identity in Christ, hope of eternity).

6. The Sword of the Spirit! (Word of God). Know, read, apply, and speak Scripture in struggles.

Prayer without ceasing, stay in constant communication with God (all types of prayer - petition, thanksgiving, intercession).

Things to do as a Christian to stand strong and to counter the wiles of the devil.

- Daily spiritual habits.

    - Read Scripture (intake God's Word).

    - Pray consistently (talk to God about everything).

    - Practice confession and repentance (stay in righteousness alignment).

    - Meditate on truth (internalize promises, focus on God's character).

Fellowship together with other believers (accountability, encouragement).

Serve others (live out gospel peace and love).

-Mindset practices

    - Renew your mind (focus on truth vs. lies, Philippians 4:8).

    - Use faith declarations (speak Scripture truths when tempted/doubtful).

- Vigilance. Recognize spiritual battles (don't take struggles lightly; resist the devil - James 4:7).

    - Stay humble and dependent on God (not self-reliant).

- Growth mindset

Pursue spiritual growth (learn, apply, obey).

Share your faith (be prepared to give reasons for hope - 1 Peter 3:15).

In conclusion, putting on the whole armor is a daily, intentional lifestyle of leaning into these practices — truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation awareness, Word usage, and prayer — while staying connected to God and His people.

Amen.
