Shake Off and Move!
In Matthew 10:14 the Bible say, “and whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when you depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.”
This chapter in Matthew surrounds Jesus’ instructions to His disciples before sending them out on the mission field. Verse 23 went on to say, “but when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: ….” Solidifying the theme “Shake off and move.” In Acts 13:51, when the Jews rejected the word of the Lord, the scripture says, “but they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came to Iconium.”
To shake off, literally signifies the removal of any dust off their feet. This acts as a testimony against the Jews who rejected, contradicted, denied, defiled and ridiculed the word of God. Rejecting the gospel is rejecting the good news of Jesus Christ and this has spiritual consequences. It also speaks to their position as pagans and idolaters. This is symbolic of our walk today because we as Christians are mandated to go ye out and spread the gospel, Mark 16:15.
To move, is to change position or location. Moving is an action; a physical movement, a shifting.
Paul and Barnabas are typical examples of moving; they moved from Antioch to Iconium when they and the gospel was rejected. Saints, every rejection is a heavy load, it holds us back and many times we do not accept rejection well. God is saying to us today, shake off the dust and move. If we do this, we will “…. heap up coals of fire upon his (the rejectors) head, and the Lord will reward you,” Proverbs 25:22.
God Bless.
